Community Solar Project

ESP DeKalb is a 7 MW-dc / 5 MW-ac community solar project under construction on a Whiskey Acre Farm in DeKalb, IL, approximately 60 miles west of Chicago. This project supports Illinois’ transition to renewable energy under the Climate & Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA) and the Adjustable Block Program, providing clean energy benefits to local residents, businesses, and institutions within ComEd’s electrical grid.

Project Construction & Features

This state-of-the-art solar farm is part of Illinois’ commitment to renewable energy, contributing to sustainability, grid resilience, and economic benefits for local communities. The project spans 22 acres and will feature single-axis tracking solar panels, which follow the sun to maximize efficiency.

Construction is currently underway, with the installation of steel racking foundations in progress, as shown in the attached images. Once complete, the site will include:

Two converter pads for efficient energy conversion.

Pollinator-friendly vegetation to enhance soil stability and support biodiversity.

A seven-foot agricultural fence to ensure security while maintaining the rural aesthetic.

Minimal environmental impact, with a stormwater management plan in place.
