Community Solar Project

ESP Pontiac is a 7 MW-dc / 5 MW-ac community solar project under construction in Pontiac, IL, located approximately 100 miles southwest of Chicago. This project supports Illinois’ transition to renewable energy under the Climate & Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA) and the Adjustable Block Program, delivering clean energy benefits to local residents, businesses, and institutions within ComEd’s electrical grid.

Project Construction & Features

This state-of-the-art solar farm is a key part of expanding community solar access in Illinois, contributing to sustainability, energy security, and economic benefits for local communities. The project spans 34 acres, with 29 acres designated for solar installation and the remaining area reserved for access roads, infrastructure, and transmission lines. The system will use single-axis tracking solar panels, which follow the sun to maximize efficiency.

Construction is actively progressing, with steel racking and foundational work well underway. Once complete, the site will include:

Two converter pads for efficient energy conversion.

Pollinator-friendly vegetation to enhance soil stability and support biodiversity.

A 20-foot-wide access road for ongoing maintenance.
